The Lighter

A real object, standing between you and the scroll.

A button is easy to tap without thinking — which is the whole problem. Lighter Mode replaces the Light up button with something you have to physically reach for: an NFC sticker you keep somewhere deliberate. Tap it to the top of your phone and the pack opens. Leave it in the other room and it doesn't.

How it works

  1. Pair it once. Chain Scroll writes a random key to a blank NFC sticker and reads it back to be sure it took. No other app, no account, no setup beyond holding it to your phone.
  2. Stick it somewhere with ritual. On an actual lighter is the classic move. On the coffee tin, the desk lamp, the inside of a drawer — anywhere that makes reaching for it a decision.
  3. Tap to light up. The sticker opens your pack for three minutes, then the app locks back up. Every tap pulls one from the pack, and the pack keeps honest score.
  4. Forgot it? There's always Borrow a light — three a day, counted separately, so you're never truly locked out of your own phone.

Chain Scroll stickers

We're making proper ones: the roundel, on good vinyl, sized for the top of a lighter. They aren't for sale yet — this page is where they'll show up when they are.

Want the feature before then? You don't have to wait for us. Any blank NTAG213 NFC sticker works — search that term anywhere and a pack of ten runs about $10. Buy them blank and writable (skip anything sold as read-only or pre-locked), and if you're sticking one to metal, get the ones labeled "on-metal" or a normal sticker will go quiet. Chain Scroll writes it for you during pairing.

What the sticker knows

A random number, and nothing else. That key exists in exactly two places — the sticker and your phone — and it identifies the sticker, not you. It is never transmitted anywhere, because Chain Scroll has no server to transmit it to. Same as everything else in the app: no account, no analytics, nothing leaves the device.
